Learning to Listen: Contemplative Prayer

Contemplative prayer is a way of prayer associated in our time with the work of Thomas Keating. He encourages us to move from conversational prayer to prayer rooted in silence. We hope to experience Christ praying in us. Like Mary when Jesus visited her home in Bethany, we sit at Christ's feet and listen. She is listening in order to be transformed. "God the Father spoke only one word and he spoke it in an eternal silence and it is in silence that we hear it. " (St. John of the Cross)
