Honoring and celebrating the saints of our lives!
You are invited to the first “Remembrance
Table Celebration” November 1st from 1:-3:00 p.m. in Price Hall to
celebrate loved ones (family, friends, pets) who are deceased. Create and bring
a small table display of the person's photographs, memorabilia, favorite
flowers, hobby or uniquely personal items, to create a Remembrance Table.
These will be part of an afternoon of shared story-telling honoring our
loved ones and afternoon tea; concluding with a service of remembrance led by
Andrew. You can see an example of a Remembrance Table in front of the
church on Sundays and in the Health Ministry Room during the week. This event
is inspired and created by Jeanette Ryder who has participated for several years
in the “Altares del Mundo, a visual and auditory mix of contemporary and
traditional altars that honor ancestral roots and worldwide traditions of
remembrance,” in Sacramento. We will be honoring our loved ones in the
Christian tradition on November 1st, “All Saints Day.” If you have any
questions, please email Jeanette at ijart@directcon.net or call Health Ministry

Are you ready?
Tuesday, October 30th at 6:00 pm in Price Hall, prepare for times of emergency.
What would you grab
if a sheriff knocked on your door and said you must evacuate your family in 5
minutes? You and your family are stuck on highway 50 in a snow blizzard for 2
hours, do you have the items to make your stay comfortable? Or if the Public
Health Department told you to stay in your home to avoid contact with a deadly
virus for 2 weeks and not go to a grocery store, workplace, or school. Do you
have enough food to survive?
The evening will be
facilitated by Mark Stanley, Federated's Community Emergency Response contact,
and Karen Shelnutt, Faith Community Nurse.
Biblical Brains and Catequest Classes

Recognition takes place on Sunday, November 11th at the 9:45 worship service.

"milestone" is coming up! If you haven’t called Jodie to RSVP, please do so
asap. Thank you!
Today
is Children’s Sabbath Sunday
A
day to consider children in need.
During worship this day, we join the Children’s Defense Fund and many other
faith communities encouraging prayer, education and service to help children and
families in need.
We are happy to welcome directors and teachers of our Federated Church
Preschool during our 9:45am worship today. The congregation at all worship
services is invited to contribute to the Arlene Peter’s Memorial Scholarship
Fund which assists our preschool families if they have a time of need. (Did
you know that our preschool is the only preschool in El Dorado County to offer
such assistance?)
Trunk or
Treat
October 28, 2006 Sunday Evening
5:00pm to 7:00ish (Trunk set-up at 4:30pm.) Federated Church Parking Lot
What is it? A Safe and Festive Place to
Trick-or-Treat
Federated Church friends decorate their car trunks and fill them with goodies to
be handed out. Cars are parked so that kids in costume can walk trunk-to-trunk
saying, “Trunk or Treat!” Starting at 5:00pm, enjoy carnival games and face
painting. Enter the
CUPCAKE WALK to
win an assortment of delectable cupcakes. Carve a pumpkin and enter to win the
CARVED PUMPKIN CONTEST. Come
hungry and have pizza at the snack bar to help raise funds for the Preschool.
Trunk or Treating is kicked-off by the ringing of the church bell. When the sun
starts to go down,
we have entertainment, juggling, performances and
our annual
MONSTER MASH DANCE. Be
creative with your costumes, but please avoid violent/evil themes. Thanks!
Intergenerational, All-Church, Advent Event

evening.

Senior High meets from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesdays.
The groups include games, discussion and a light
supper. This week is our now famous (or maybe that’s infamous) Car Quest. For
those who have never had the pleasure, Car Quest is like a citywide scavenger
hunt, but with specific clues to follow. Please don’t be late or we’ll be
gone. If any parent types or young at heart folks would like to help, we could
probably use another driver or two.
Sierra Service Project and Mexico Mission Trips
Applications for both trips are now available. If
you think you might like to attend either one, please talk to Helen. We are
taking applications now so that fundraising can begin to take place to help
offset the costs of either or both trips. For more information on Sierra
Service Project go online to www.sierraserviceproject.org and for the Mexico
trip go to www.comebuildhope.com . The deadline for Sierra Service
Project applications, which must be accompanied by a check for $125, is Nov. 1.

Just a reminder to confirmation class youth that our
next meeting is October 28, so mark your calendars. Even if you were not at our
first meeting serving the meal at the Upper Room, you are welcome to join us in
October. Just let Helen know to add you to the list.

News from the Church Council –
The Council held its regular monthly meeting on
October 16, 2007. The meeting opened with prayer by Pastor Headden.
The Council received a report from the Board of
Trustees on the value of the remaining 4.86 acre parcel of unimproved land at
the Diamond Springs site. The estimated value is between $396,600 and $591,000
depending on whether the sale is to a non-profit organization or to a developer.
The Council decided to put the property up for sale with the goal of using sale
proceeds to fund local and global mission projects to be determined with input
from the congregation.
The Discipleship Ministry Team reported that
“Yellow Book” small group meetings have commenced. They also reported that they
will host the Annual Congregational Meeting which will be held on January 6,
2008 after the 9:30 service (only one worship service will be held that day).
The Connections Ministry Team reported that the
Peacemaking offering raised over $1800. The team reminded us that the Holy
Harvest Auction will be held on Saturday, November 3rd with proceeds
to go to Grace Place homeless shelter. Plans are being made for a Hunger Sunday
to be held each month to help stock the SHARE food closet which is housed in our
building. A new program called Wee Share has been started in our preschool.
Preschoolers bring a food item once per month which they take as a group to the
SHARE food closet. This is an important way to involve the pre-school parents as
well as the children in an important mission of our church which is to share our
abundance with others in need.
The Congregation Ministry Team reported that the
church website is now up and running although refinements are still being made.
The team is also hosting one of the Tuesday night dinners with the pastor.
The Stewardship Ministry Team reported that it
will be hosting brunches for the next three Sundays to provide information about
the church budget.
Peg Vanderkar reported that Aric Clark was
advanced from Enquirer to Candidate at the September Presbytery meeting. He is
on track to become an ordained pastor pending completion of his seminary course
work and exams and being called by a congregation.
The financial report was received. It showed
September income of $41,540 and expenses of $38,140. Income for the year through
September was $434,226 and expenses were $421,224. Included in this income is
$10,000 which will be repaid to the cash flow reserve by the end of the year.
Our current by-laws call for Trustees to serve
one five-year term with no provision for a second term. At the end of 2007, four
of the five Trustee positions will be vacant. The Council decided to recommend a
by-law revision that would provide a three-year term for Trustees with the
possibility to be reelected for a second three-year term. This is the same term
that is provided for members of the Council. It was felt that this change will
make it easier to find candidates willing to serve on the Board of Trustees. The
change will be put to a vote of the congregation at the Annual Meeting.

Tuesday Evenings
~ Dinner is Ready!
Dinner/Choir Practice/Child Care/Conversations with Pastors
Feed your family a yummy & nutritious dinner between 4:45pm-6:30pm.
We alternate between PIZZA
and home-cooked meals.
Young Children who are not
in choir get to play & do craft projects downstairs with Carlie Regan
so parents get a break!
~ Starts Today ~
Catequest is an introduction to God, the Bible and our Christian Faith for
children in the third grade. Biblical Brains is a beginner’s guide to the Bible
for children in the fourth grade. Classes will be held October 21st,
28th & November 4 during our regular Sunday morning class time.
Recognition takes place on Sunday, November 11th at the 9:45 worship service.
If you have a child in these age groups, let them know that this important
Thanks!

Senior High meets from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesdays.
The groups include games, discussion and a light

those who have never had the pleasure, Car Quest is like a citywide scavenger
hunt, but with specific clues to follow.
Next Confirmation Class October 28, 9:30-11:00,

Just a reminder to confirmation class youth that our
next meeting is October 28, so mark your calendars. Even if you were not at our
first meeting serving the meal at the Upper Room, you are welcome to join us in
October. Just let Helen know to add you to the list.
Looking Ahead!
