do
you need a prayer? The prayer chain
is available at all times for your prayer request. If you have a prayer
request, please call Dot Polston, Norma Paulin or Carol White. We need more
links added to our chain - if you believe in the power of prayer; you can add
powerful strength to our chain. We need you and you have only one call to make
to pass on a prayer request. Call Dot Polston if you would like to be a part of
this powerful ministry.
Usher needed at 8:15
service - If you would like to be an
usher at the 8:15 service one time per month, contact Lorna Roscoe.
Grace Place and United
Outreach are now looking for three
temporary but full time employees to operate and oversee the homeless shelter at
the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Camino this winter. The three positions
include the shelter director and two shift monitors. We are only funded for
three months operation now, beginning in November, but hope to expand to six
months this coming spring and perhaps twelve months next year when the new
facility in Pollock Pines is completed. Job Descriptions are available
in the Grace Place basket in the office. If you
know anyone who might be interested, please pass on this information to them.
If anyone has any questions, please call Art Edwards.
FCW
stands for Federated Church Women. Truly, ALL
the women in our congregation are Federated Church Women, not just those who are
able to attend the monthly general and circle meetings. With that in mind the
FCW Executive Board is starting a new tradition. We intend to regularly
spotlight one or two of the women in our midst who (perhaps very quietly)
make or have made a special contribution to our church’s life and programs.
There are so many; it is hard to know where to begin! And we worry about
leaving someone out! But once begun we can go on and on! Look for these
spotlights in future announcements and newsletters. If you have someone you
think should be spotlighted, write us a note about her! (Put it in the
FCW box in the office.) We welcome nominations!
ANNUAL PEACEMAKING
OFFERING, Today
- Worldwide Communion Sunday is the day each year that we
celebrate communion with
Christians all over the world and give to the offering devoted to peacemaking
here and abroad. In our Federated Church, we give 1/3 of the offering to
peacemaking programs in the Methodist Church, 1/3 to peacemaking programs in the
Presbyterian Church and
1/3 to special programs locally to help our young people work toward peaceful
challenges in our
community. There are special offering envelopes and bookmarks in the
pews for you to take. Please prayerfully consider how
important this work is here at
home and around the world.
At
the 9:45 Service once a month you can
have the opportunity to help lead the praise service. All ages of our church
family are welcome. If you have a heart for worship, call Bonnie,
622-0273 ext. 21.
The Federated Church family is awesome! During
my recent illness I was overwhelmed with cards, visits, food, and genuine
concern. I want to thank everyone. It is such a privilege to be a part of such
a Church Family! Jean Caldwell
For the month of October FCW SPOTLIGHTS Federated
Church Women, Beverly Van Meurs. It is hard to know where to begin with
Bev. She has had key involvement in so many areas. Bev moved to this area in
1988 and joined the church about 15 years ago. She began by being the SHARE
Food Closet Chair for two years then Placerville Branch of the Salvation Army
for about 12 years which involved the Christmas Kettle Project - Disadvantaged
Youth Summer Camp - Answering the various needs of people in distress. She was
a Pink Lady and with a group visiting Moms and Baby’s at the hospital. She was
a founding member of the League of Women’s Voters and was the Housing Chair for
the League of Women’s Voters for about 5 years and started Affordable Housing
Coalition which led to the founding of Grace Place. She is Team Leader for 1st
Sunday of the month for Grace Place. She served on the Parish Relations Team
for 3 years. She helped start the Parish Nurse Program. She is an avid hiker
and one of her proudest achievements was hiking up Half Dome at the age of 75.
Thank you Bev, for your hard work and dedication to those in need! We
appreciate you!
FOLLOWING THE YELLOW BOOK ROAD
those
interested in nurturing Christian growth in small groups gathered for an
orientation on September 16th. We learned that the YELLOW BOOK
provides a step by step approach to put yourself in a place where God can
transform your life from the inside out. Reflection, questions and common
disciplines provide mutual encouragement and inspiration to the members of the
small group you choose to put together. The Discipleship Ministry Team hopes
when you are ready you too will participate in this experience of bringing
together the variety of different perspectives to your small group.
Connections Ministry
Team meeting is this Thursday, October 11 at 6:30 pm to plan, develop
and support the international mission and local outreach ministries of Federated
Church. You are welcome and invited to join in the Fireside Room for an evening
of interesting discussions and to learn how our congregation is part of the
faith community throughout the world.
PREPARE YE!
Join us next Sunday, October 14th at 9:30, 11:00 and noon in
Price Hall! Eat breakfast at Camp Café and learn how to prepare your family and
household in the event of an emergency or pandemic. Learn what the difference
is between pandemic and seasonal flu. Join Mark Stanley, Community Emergency
Representative for Federated Church and Karen Shelnutt, RN for an hour of
interactive discussion. Leave with a plan and checklist for your individual
household needs.
BUDGET BRUNCHES
- October 21 - 12:15 pm;
October 28 - 11:00 am; November 4 - 9:30 am - Price Hall -
How does the Church spend money? What are our
plans for 2008? How do these decisions get made? Do you have input that
concerns you? How are we doing (financially) in 2007? What does it take to
keep Federated Church operating at its current level? What is the prospective
budget for 2008? The Stewardship Ministry Team will host three “Budget
Brunches” where we get to ask all our questions (and make any comments) about
church finances. Coffee, tea, juice, muffins, fruit will be provided. Members
of the Finance Team will be present to respond to all questions and to listen to
all comments. Please select one of the convenient Budget Brunches and come be a
guest of the Stewardship Team. (Come to all three if you like the muffins!)

be served after the presentation and will be "build your own ice cream
sundaes" tea and coffee. RSVP: Please respond by October 21 to

I know this is early, but on November 17th we will be
attending the Imagination Theater’s production of Lil’ Abner with a light supper
beforehand at the beautiful home of Jan Axline. If you have not already signed
up with Dianne, call Vivian Carpender or Leslie Bush for ticket information.
BE A PART OF THE 2007
HOLY HARVEST AUCTION - Whether you have something great to donate,
you’re willing to make a dessert or decorate some tables, or you just want to
come and participate in the fun, there’s something for everyone at the 2007 Holy
Harvest Auction. Watch for the Holy Harvest Donation Table in the patio or
Price Hall (depending on the weather) this Sunday and in the weeks to come.
Contact Linda Gates, or Pam Hagan to donate auction items or to volunteer to
help. And remember to mark you calendar for Saturday, Nov. 3 – you won’t want
to miss the fun this year! All proceeds go to fund Grace Place, our local
homeless shelter.
What a great opportunity! -
A group from Federated Church will
join up with a group form Foothills United Methodist to help with Hurricane
Katrina clean-up. The trip is scheduled for November 17-24, the week of
Thanksgiving. The home base will be in Vancleave, Mississippi. We will sleep
in dorms and the church will feed us breakfast and dinner. We are each
responsible for airfare to New Orleans and rental cars. There is financial
assistance available. Please contact Karen Rosholt. if you are interested in
joining the group.
SHARE ALERT
- SHARE is very low on staple food
items such as soup, canned veggies, fruit and beans; pasta, ramen, peanut
butter, etc. The Food Bank is undergoing a major re-organization so this should
just be a temporary situation. You could be a big help to us by bringing any of
these items to church the next few Sundays. The wooden box outside the main
church door is for donations. Many thanks. Dianne Ettlich
Federated Preschool Collects
Soup! Last week SHARE volunteers had
the privilege of a visit from several smiling, talkative preschoolers each
bearing a can of soup to donate. The preschoolers took a tour and asked
questions and placed their offerings on the soup shelf to be distributed later
by SHARE volunteers. Each month Federated preschoolers will bring a designated
item of food to share with those in need. Thank you preschoolers for your kind
offerings.
Save the Date for Retreat in
2008! The Retreat Planning team would
like to thank everyone involved for making our first Federated Church Retreat at
Zephyr Point a roaring success! For those unable to make it, 78 of us shared
stories, had good food, enjoyed wonderful music, played games, participated in
crafts, had free time and worshipped, all on the shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe.
We are already forming a planning team for next year, currently scheduled for
September 5th, 6th and 7th, 2008. If interested, please
contact Don Vandekar. Your Retreat Planning Team, Don Vanderkar, Nancy Menzie,
Joann LePere, Sharon Fraser, Mary Jo Anderson, Jean Caldwell, and Carol
Brinkerhoff.

Children
& Families Programs
Welcome to Bartholomew’s Basement!
Bartholomew’s Basement is the name of our children’s classroom area downstairs.
Bartholomew was one of Jesus’ 12 Disciples. In Bartholomew’s Basement, like many
basements, there are nooks and crannies to explore, boxes to open, old books to
look at and cool things to discover. We want children to feel interested and
at-home in this space that is created just for them.
