A message from
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance:
The first half of 2008 has seen the most severe storm
and tornado outbreak in 23 years. In addition to the devastating flooding in
Iowa and other mid-west states, tornadoes, storms, floods and wildfires have
brought destruction to scores of other communities across the U.S. PDA has
responded with $246,000 in One Great Hour of Sharing and designated funds to
meet the needs of storm survivors in 20 different presbyteries. Please continue
to lift up in prayer the many communities and people across the country that
have been impacted by severe weather this year. Those wishing to respond
financially may do so by designating gifts for 2008 United States
Storms. Donations may be sent through normal mission giving channels. Gifts by
credit card can be made by calling:
PresbyTel at (800) 872-3283 or online at <http://www.pcusa.org/pda/donate/accounts.htm.>

this important staffing area. Our main change is to expand the secretarial
position to an office managerial position.
Anyone interested in applying for either of these positions is asked to submit a
letter of interest and a resume on or before June 6, 2008. Please call or e-mail
Carol Olmstead for details. Carololm@aol.com, 295-5561.

Grace Place Volunteer
Appreciation TODAY
--
The Board of Directors of United Outreach would like to extend their
gratitude and appreciation to all the volunteers who served Grace Place this
past season by hosting an Ice Cream Social today in the courtyard beginning at
4:00 p.m. Indulge in banana splits and hear comments from an appreciative
board.
HELP still needs volunteers--we
need mentors who will meet with our families--who are in the HELP Mentor
home--just a couple hours a month to help families get on their feet. Also, a
volunteer to answer phone calls for motel vouchers--you would be on call ONLY
every 6 weeks. Please consider one of these positions--our need is
great-- Thank you. JoAnn LePere at 530 676-7181.
Recently, I made a
request for furniture for the HELP Transitional Home. You responded with a
microwave, vacuum cleaners, linens for bunk beds, sofas, chairs and beds.
Although we were unable to use all of the items which you offered, the HELP
Board thanks all of you. In addition several men helped to paint the living
room and bedrooms, as well as haul away dirty and worn out furniture. The home
was occupied on May 2 by a single mother and two of her children who attend
Sierra School. Thanks again. JoAnn LePere.
2 Cents A Meal
offering will be collected next Sunday, May 25th.
This on-going offering is divided between hunger-relief projects of the United
Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, and our local Upper Room Dining
Hall. Look for the collection bowl as you enter or leave the church next Sunday,
and remember: your prayers are as important as your pennies!

Time,
After Children’s Time, the children
are invited
to come downstairs for lessons and
activities.
6/5 Alive
5th and 6th
Graders enjoy fun lessons and activities
in the Tent Room downstairs.
SHARE
FOOD CLOSET
A big thank you to the
local Postal Service, Sierra School & the Placerville Union School District
Office for their recent donation of food. Many hard-working people continue to
search for work right now. They come to our SHARE closet downstairs
for groceries to
feed their families.
SHARE needs
food.
Please consider
buying extra food when you shop and bring it to the church.
Bring food items
to the church. (any time!)
There is a SHARE
box at the entry to the Sanctuary.
The 3rd
and 4th grade children will help stock the shelves.
SHARE needs:
peanut butter, canned fruit, mac-n-cheese, dry milk,
healthy boxed
cereals, baby formula, & canned meats/stews.
TWO
ARKS!
THE RAINBOW IS HERE
Thanks to the remarkable generosity of the Federated
Church congregation, TWO ARKS will soon be on the way to help people all over
the world. Quality animals, extensive training and environmental action will
help families, communities, villages and our world. We are all, (children and
parents), warmly blessed by your example of compassion and your joyous support
of our young children.
Just Think:
4 flocks of
chicks 4 llamas 4 trios of geese 4
sheep
4
goats 4 camels 4 trios of rabbits
4 donkeys
4
oxen 4 beehives 4
oxen 4 trios of ducks
4
guinea pigs 4 pigs 4 cows

That’s 60
Animals, some of them quite HUGE animals.
That will
help 60 communities, then 60+ more communities when those animals have
offspring. The ripple-effect is astonishing
A Heifer
International representative will be visiting us on an upcoming Sunday morning
to receive our gift and provide details on how it will be used. He or she will
also spend time with the children to personally thank them for their efforts and
to tell them how they have helped real people, both in other countries and in
the US as well.
THE
BLESSINGS CONTINUE
RIGHT IN OUR BACK
YARD
Because the
congregation “gave to overflowing” we have enough money to help local
hard-working people who are out of work and out of food.
The FILL
THE ARK effort raised MORE than the $5,000 needed to send the gift ark.
So, we have
made arrangements to provide a truckload of food for the SHARE Closet.
The 3rd
and 4th grade team of children, called “Project 34”, will do the work
of unloading the truck and stocking the shelves with guidance from the SHARE
representatives.
We are so
happy to be part of this faith family,
helping
people in practical & immediate ways.
Thank you!
HONORING GRADUATES
We would like to recognize the
young people in our Federated family who are graduating this spring by listing
them in the Bulletin. If you know of someone who should be so honored, please
supply the information requested below and place in the offering plate or turn
into the Church Office by May 25th. The names will appear in the June
1st bulletin.

- Fireside Room, Coordinator, Rev. Bob Olmstead. Wednesdays @ 7:00 p.m. and
Sundays @ 10:55 a.m. All are welcome at any session.
Today
at 10:55 am: U.S. Defense and Security Policy: America is adopting
new policies and methods for defending the U.S. and its interests abroad. What
should our priorities be? What new challenges exist? How do diplomacy and
military intersect?
This
Wednesday and next Sunday: Latin America: Shift to the Left?: Why
don’t we have a closer relationship with the other Americas? Is Latin America
likely to follow Hugo Chavez to the “left”? Is Latin America developing or
falling behind?
(Attend when you can and when the topic interests you.)
SHARE Sunday is May 4th:
Please bring canned or boxed food to help feed the hungry in our community. In
March we feed 1,352 people and our shelves are bare.
SEQ CHAPTER h r 1
SMALL CHANGES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
Federated’s “Green” Faire - this Saturday, May 3
9:00 a.m. till noon.
Come for the morning or just drop in and browse. Fruits
and muffins provided. Children’s activities throughout the morning
and childcare provided for the littlest ones.
Come and
learn about some of the small changes you can make that will make a BIG
difference in the life of our planet, our nation, our neighborhoods, our homes,
our families, our lives. Drop in and sample: fascinating displays, hands-on
activities, guest speakers, brief videos to watch. Or attend 40 minute
workshops to find out where Waste Management takes your recyclables, or how to
find and prepare locally grown foods, or what the Bible has to say about our
earth, and about the new curriculum being prepared for El Dorado County
Schools. Most important: learn practical easy small changes you and your family
can make that will make a BIG difference in our overall quality of life.
There will be a free gift for every family (or couple or individual) who attend.
Special activities are planned for children and youth. Childcare will be
provided. Learn how to become a (more) green household and how we can become a
(more) green church. Sponsored by your Stewardship Ministry Team (who want to
turn “stewardship” into a ministry - not just asking for money.)
Staff
Parish Relations Team Announces Changes in the Office!
We have sent Nancy Roberts off into retirement and into
her new "Grandma" role with our thanks and blessings. This week will see both
new and old familiar faces in the office.
A New Face: We are pleased to welcome Vicki
Martin, our new interim secretary. Vicki has both school district office and
technical assistance experience. We think her personality and expertise are just
right for our office. Vicki has two sons, Eddie in 5th grade and Alec in 8th
grade. She'll be in the office afternoons only until May 30th and then will
expand her hours to begin in the morning. (We are glad that she can step in so
soon and are working with her on flexible hours for the interim.) Stop in and
meet Vicki in the afternoon. Be patient with her as she has many new faces,
names and routines to learn!
Familiar Faces: Gina Divine is our interim
financial secretary and will be in the office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
mornings. (She is also continuing her Worship Tech Coordinator responsibilities
for the time being.) JoAn Stokes, our former office manager before Nancy, has
very graciously agreed to be in the office on Tuesday and Thursday mornings
through May 30. THANK YOU JO-AN!
