The Music Ministry
Music is a big part of worship at Federated. Our worship repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary, and there are opportunities for all ages to be involved.
Music is a powerful method of physical, mental, and spiritual expression both inside and outside of an individual’s perception. Now, combine that within a group such as Federated Church and one will find a special team effort, from the esteemed Pastoral Team graciously led by Pastor Andrew Headden to congregants and music ministers as they cultivate a relationship and worship within a nonjudgmental, welcoming environment.

The various ensembles include: Celebration Singers: A traditional style choir that sing hymns, anthems ancient to present, and Psalm responses. This SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) group sings the great works of Bach, Mozart, Handel, many of the Methodist champions, and more. On occasion, special international guests visit. History and liturgy are emphasized and appreciated. |

Praise Team and Worship Band: What is contemporary? Come visit a rehearsal and contribute a thought regarding “Now” music. Percussion, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, piano, and voices explore many style and back grounds. Each week brings new treasures and gifts for God. This group has a lot of fun making music together!
Engage Band: This newly formed ensemble consists of young talent (ages 7 and up) wishing to sing, play or compose new works. Engage Band is about intergenerational involvement and participation, so parents are encouraged to get involved, too. Gabriel assesses and encourages individual talent and works on “fear free singing.” Aural skills, harmony training, and melody phrasing are focused on, as well as educating our young people about God, Christ, Mary and the Holy Spirit’s grace through music.

Gabriel Silva, Music Minister
A native of Placerville, Gabriel has fond memories of his involvement in both sports and music at El Dorado High School (Go Cougars!). He felt at the time that music sings in sports and in every living thing one can be aware of.
Gabriel’s mother, a violinist, pianist, organist and vocal teacher, instilled in him the foundation of Christ and of the power of sound. At the age of 4, Gabriel began studying music with his family, which led to years of singing, playing piano and touring. “The Silva Family” touched lives with music, and with celebration of Jesus Christ and the special force that is within and calling us.
Gabriel later received a Master of Music from the University of Southern California in Vocal Arts and Opera. He went on to perform in Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the East Coast, West Coast Opera Houses and Chinese Venues.
Throughout his life, it has been clear that Christ is the secret to Gabriel’s heart. In his music ministry at Federated Church, Gabriel seeks to work with local talent so the congregation can sing with its whole being. “If you can speak, you can sing,” Gabriel insists. It all begins with the Holy Spirit and the desire to share that presence with others.
